Developing a Multi-sensory Public Participation GIS (MSPPGIS) method for integrating landscape values and soundscapes of urban green infrastructure

• Presents a multi-sensory PPGIS method integrating landscape values and soundscapes. data (N = 507) from 2 suburbs in Helsinki is used to operationalize the method. Low spatial overlap between hotspots of different pleasant/unpleasant sounds was found. Generally pleasant unpleasant were located closer home than values. Landscape do not necessarily reflect sonic perceptions UGI. This paper develops, tests validates Multi-sensory Public Participation GIS (MSPPGIS) combining qualities soundscapes mapping. The development involved: a) survey design; b) three-phase evaluation addressing analytical, applicability usability criteria; c) refinement; d) sampling collection, and; e) analysis. analysis consisted hotspot mapping involving Kernel Density Estimation, assessment using Jaccard coefficients value compatibility showing level positive negative Results indicated very low sound hotspots, suggesting that perception urban green blue spaces. Pleasant (except for life values), indicating respondents’ soundscape ‘cognitive map’ smaller range. MSPPGIS enables elicitation more dynamic diverse set compared previous which tend focus on 'noise' instead multiple experiences sounds. Also, combination provides integrated ‘where’ ‘how’ design infrastructure.
